Why Is My Broccoli Burning?

If you’ve experienced the frustration of your broccoli burning, fear not – you’re not alone. I’ve done it!

Air frying broccoli can be a bit tricky, and its delicate nature can make it prone to burning if not handled correctly.

Here are some common reasons why your broccoli might be ending up a bit too crispy:

1. High Temperature: A high-temperature setting can be a double-edged sword. While it’s excellent for achieving that crispy texture, it can also burn if left unattended. Lower the temperature a bit and keep an eye on your broccoli.

2. Overcrowding: Crowded broccoli in the basket can be a recipe for disaster. When the florets are too close, they trap heat and moisture, leading to uneven cooking and potential burning. Ensure they’re spread out in a single layer for the best results.

3. Lack of Oil: While one of the benefits of air frying is using less oil, a little oil can go a long way in preventing burning. A drizzle of olive oil or cooking spray can help maintain moisture and prevent excessive crisping.

4. Size Matters: Broccoli florets come in different sizes, and can affect cooking time. Smaller florets may cook faster and risk burning before the larger ones are done. Try to cut them into similar-sized pieces to ensure even cooking.

5. Cooking Time: Air fryers can vary in cooking times, so it’s crucial to keep an eye on your broccoli, especially if it’s your first time using a particular recipe or air fryer model. Start with a shorter cooking time and adjust as needed.

6. Shake It Up: Don’t forget to shake or toss the broccoli halfway through the cooking process. This helps distribute heat evenly and prevents any side from getting too crispy.

7. Use Greaseproof Paper: To prevent sticking and burning, consider using parchment paper or a liner. It’s a handy trick to make cleanup easier and protect your broccoli.

Remember, it’s all about experimentation and getting to know your specific appliance.

What Air Fryer Temperature Do You Reheat Broccoli In An Air Fryer?

When reheating broccoli 160C / 320F is the best temperature.

This setting strikes a balance between warming it through without overcooking or drying it out.

Start with reheating the broccoli for 3-4 minutes at 160C / 320F.

Check the broccoli, if it’s not quite warm enough, add a minute or two more.

Air Fryer Courgettes

Can You Air Fry Courgettes?

If you’re looking for a healthier yet delicious way to enjoy courgettes, look no further than air frying.

In this recipe, I’ll walk you through the steps to achieve courgettes that are golden, tender, and bursting with flavour.

Ingredients

  • Fresh courgettes (zucchinis)
  • Olive oil
  • Seasonings of your choice (such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, or herbs)

How To Air Fry Courgettes

Prepping the Courgettes: Start by washing the courgettes thoroughly and then pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Trim the ends and cut them into uniform slices or sticks, making sure they are not too thick for even cooking.

Seasoning: In a mixing bowl, gently toss the courgette slices or sticks with a drizzle of olive oil. The oil helps the courgettes to crisp. Add your preferred seasonings – a pinch of salt, a sprinkle of pepper, or perhaps a dash of garlic powder for an extra kick.

Preheating: Preheat your air fryer to around 190C / 380F for 5 minutes. Preheating allows the courgettes to start cooking immediately, sealing in their natural juices and preventing them from becoming soggy.

Arranging the Courgettes: Line the basket with a single layer of seasoned courgette slices or sticks. Avoid overcrowding to allow proper air circulation and even cooking. If needed, cook in batches.

Air Frying Time: Cook the courgettes for 10-15 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking process.

The exact time may vary based on the thickness of your slices and your specific model.

Checking for Crispiness: Keep an eye on the courgettes as they cook, look for a golden-brown colour and a crispy exterior. If they’re not as crispy as you’d like you can continue air frying in short intervals of 1-2 minutes until they reach your desired level of crispiness.
