Is it safe to defrost in the air fryer?

How To Defrost Bacon In The Air Fryer

Start by removing the frozen bacon from its packaging.

You will usually find the bacon has been frozen in a 1lb (454g) quantity but not to worry it will still defrost if you follow these steps:

Preheat to a low temperature of 150C / 330F for 5 minutes.

Preheating helps to create a warm and even environment for the defrosting process.

Place the bacon inside the basket once preheated.

Set the timer for 8-10 minutes. The exact time will depend on the thickness of the bacon slices and the power of your specific model.

It’s essential to keep an eye on the bacon during defrosting to prevent it from partially cooking.

After the first 5 minutes, carefully check the bacon.

If the bacon slices are beginning to soften and separate, flip them over to ensure even defrosting.

Continue defrosting for another 5 minutes, if necessary.

Once the bacon slices are flexible and no longer frozen, remove them from the basket.

If any sections remain frozen, you can continue defrosting them for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Once defrosted you can cook the bacon. (instructions above).

If you don’t plan to use the whole amount straight away store the unused defrosted bacon in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Tips To Achieve Crispy Bacon Every Time

To ensure your bacon turns out perfectly crispy, here are some essential tips:

1. Opt for thick-cut bacon as it tends to cook better and result in a crispier texture.

2. Just like with any cooking method, preheating is crucial for even cooking. Set your temperature to 200C / 400F and allow it to preheat for 5 minutes before adding the bacon.

3. Lay out the strips of bacon in a single layer on the basket or tray. Avoid overlapping them as this can hinder proper airflow and result in uneven cooking.

4. Placing a piece of greaseproof paper or aluminium foil on the bottom of the basket can help catch any drippings and make cleanup easier.

5. To ensure both sides of your bacon get evenly cooked and crispy, flip them over halfway through the cooking time. This will help achieve that perfect balance between chewiness and crunchiness.

6. The cooking time may vary depending on your specific model and personal preference for crispiness. Keep an eye on your bacon towards the end of cooking to avoid burning it.
