How To Air Fry A Chicken 3 Different Ways

Choosing The Right Chicken For Your Air Fryer

Selecting the right chicken for your air fryer roast chicken dinner is crucial to ensure optimal results.

When choosing a chicken, opt for a fresh, organic, or free-range bird if possible.

These chickens tend to have better flavour and texture compared to factory-farmed ones.

Consider the size of your air fryer when selecting the chicken.

Depending on the capacity of your air fryer, you may need to choose a smaller chicken or spatchcock it to ensure it fits properly.

It’s important to note that overcrowding the air fryer basket can lead to uneven cooking and a less desirable result.

  • Whole chicken – approx. 1-3kg-1.5kg (This will depend on the size of your air fryer basket)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

How To Prepare Chicken For Air Frying

Before cooking the chicken in the air fryer, it’s essential to prepare it properly.

Start by removing any giblets or innards from the cavity of the chicken.

Rinse the chicken thoroughly under cold water, both inside and out, to remove any impurities. Pat dry with paper towels to ensure crispy skin.

To enhance the flavour and tenderness of the chicken, consider brining it before cooking.

Brining involves soaking the chicken in a saltwater solution for a few hours or overnight.

This helps to infuse the meat with moisture and seasoning, resulting in a more flavourful and juicy roast chicken.

Chicken Seasoning

Seasoning the chicken is a vital step in creating a delicious air fryer roast chicken dinner.

There are endless options for seasoning and marinating the chicken, depending on your personal preference.

A classic and simple seasoning option is salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of herbs such as thyme or rosemary. This combination brings out the natural flavours of the chicken while adding a subtle herby aroma.

For a bolder flavour, you can experiment with different spice blends, such as paprika, garlic powder, cumin, or chilli powder.

Marinating the chicken before cooking can further enhance the flavour.

You can use a variety of marinades, such as lemon and garlic, teriyaki, or honey mustard.

Simply combine the marinade ingredients in a bowl, coat the chicken evenly, and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight for maximum flavour.
